I was looking forward to this weekend series for two reasons. 1.Y’all know how I love Texas, {shout out to Julie and the Eastons} but I will always cheer for the Heat. 2. My friend Lawrence was coming on Friday night to shoot the game. I met Lawrence at Vancouver Fashion Week and he’s a super rad photographer.
I think y’all know by now that I shoot a lot of different types of subjects. With VFW there seem to be a million photographers jostling for their space in “the pit” at the end of the catwalk. The models, the clothes, the rows of seats are filled with trendy men and women that have their own personal space. That’s not the case in the pit, if you find a spot you tend to sit there for the week or at least the night because you don’t want to loose it. Maybe that’s why I love the suicide box while shooting the Abbotsford Heat, just me between the two teams sometimes another photographer but I can handle that. Lawrence has helped me on some shoots with studio lighting, he’s my go to guru with that.
I hope he doesn’t kill me for using this photo of him below that I took when we were at the Yale Sports Academy earlier this year shooting. {dude I have so many test shots!!} He loved it when we were shooting hockey and baseball for the Yale website. I asked him if he would be interested in shooting a Heat game with me, his immediate answer was YES! So in the third period he entered the suicide box and lived to tell about it. Funny enough I did step on his toes at one point. I stepped back and didn’t see him behind me I said, “Hey there’s no hiding behind me in the suicide box!!” Thanks for coming out and trying something new Lawrence you’re a Rock Star.

I am so very glad that the Heat starts the game off right with the Future Star player. How adorable is he and what a memory he will have skating around with the team and then standing at the blue line for the anthems. I love the one of him looking up at #41 Guillaume Desbiens.

Can more fans please sit beside the penalty box? I love photos like this.

I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for a good fight. My fave Heat fight photo is still of Matt Pelech {who now plays for the San Jose Sharks} from last season but the last one here of #22 John Armstrong is a close second. When it happens center ice close to where I shoot from even better cause I know I’m going to get great photos.
Everyone loves the Mini Minor kids when they play during the first intermission. Did you know that our Captain #11 Quintin Laing’s son was out there on Sunday?

I’ll have to retire Friends at the Lions Games, so it was good to see Tara and Sean {Sean are you wearing a Longhorns hat?!!} at the game and Lawrence’s wife Fanny too! {I don’t know the other people!}
