Abbotsford Heat vs San Antonio Rampage || Vancouver Sports Photographer

I was looking forward to this weekend series for two reasons. 1.Y’all know how I love Texas, {shout out to Julie and the Eastons} but I will always cheer for the Heat. 2. My friend Lawrence was coming on Friday night to shoot the game. I met Lawrence at Vancouver Fashion Week and he’s a super rad photographer.

I think y’all know by now that I shoot a lot of different types of subjects. With VFW there seem to be a million photographers jostling for their space in “the pit” at the end of the catwalk. The models, the clothes, the rows of seats are filled with trendy men and women that have their own personal space. That’s not the case in the pit, if you find a spot you tend to sit there for the week or at least the night because you don’t want to loose it. Maybe that’s why I love the suicide box while shooting the Abbotsford Heat, just me between the two teams sometimes another photographer but I can handle that. Lawrence has helped me on some shoots with studio lighting, he’s my go to guru with that.

I hope he doesn’t kill me for using this photo of him below that I took when we were at the Yale Sports Academy earlier this year shooting. {dude I have so many test shots!!} He loved it when we were shooting hockey and baseball for the Yale website. I asked him if he would be interested in shooting a Heat game with me, his immediate answer was YES! So in the third period he entered the suicide box and lived to tell about it. Funny enough I did step on his toes at one point. I stepped back and didn’t see him behind me I said, “Hey there’s no hiding behind me in the suicide box!!” Thanks for coming out and trying something new Lawrence you’re a Rock Star.

I am so very glad that the Heat starts the game off right with the Future Star player. How adorable is he and what a memory he will have skating around with the team and then standing at the blue line for the anthems. I love the one of him looking up at #41 Guillaume Desbiens.

Can more fans please sit beside the penalty box? I love photos like this.

I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for a good fight. My fave Heat fight photo is still of Matt Pelech {who now plays for the San Jose Sharks} from last season but the last one here of #22 John Armstrong is a close second. When it happens center ice close to where I shoot from even better cause I know I’m going to get great photos.

Everyone loves the Mini Minor kids when they play during the first intermission. Did you know that our Captain #11 Quintin Laing’s son was out there on Sunday?

I’ll have to retire Friends at the Lions Games, so it was good to see Tara and Sean {Sean are you wearing a Longhorns hat?!!} at the game and Lawrence’s wife Fanny too! {I don’t know the other people!}

Welcome little Alina || Vancouver Newborn Photographer

When I photographed Mel and Mike’s RE-Wear the Dress session, I found out very quickly what their signature pose was. We had such an amazing shoot and I love every single frame of them. Well, fast forward a year and I caught up with them and photographed their new precious daughter Alina. Not until I was going through the frames on my computer did I see this photo. I don’t think there will be any doubt who the baby daddy is with Alina striking this pose! Pretty awesome!! More photos to come.

Welcome little Nathan || Vancouver Newborn Photographer

Here’s a perfect post that will bring some sunshine to a grey Saturday for you and THIS is why I love my job. I was able to catch up with Jenn and Colin, who’s wedding we photographed last year, and meet their new gorgeous son Nathan. He was nice and sleepy for our photo shoot and I think I could have stayed all day taking photos of him. Thank You Jenn and Colin for inviting me over, I can’t wait for the next year and photographing Nathan every three months with the Growing Up Baby Package!

I mean really? Lips, little fingers and a full head of hair! Adorable.

Just chillin’ in his sock monkey hat.

This is how Nathan will cheer when watching the Canucks games with Mom and Dad.

One of my faves, just before I left Colin was holding Nathan and Nathan was all smiles. Absolute bliss.

Jain Family || Vancouver Family Photographer

It was so fun hanging out with the Jain family in Queen Elizabeth Park! Little Dylon and his big brown eyes was absolutely adorable and had us all in stitches with all of his cuteness. Hope you guys had fun and enjoy just a few of my favourites from our session.

I’m so proud that I now know who Sophie is! {Not just a giraffe that everyone shockingly has named Sophie.}

I like to think the kids are saying “noooo, please don’t go I want more photos!!”

November Sports News | Vancouver Sports Photographer

November has been a super busy month, it’s not over and then before you know it Christmas will be here!

I know I’m probably more known for my wedding photography as Daydream Weddings, I may also get a few more features with weddings like this one, but I really started out in high school on the school news paper as the sports photographer/reporter and then moved up to the photo editor and but made sure I kept my share of sports photography and reporting. I am not the athletic sister, I leave that to Jen, so I choose to photograph the super athletes that we watch in awe, who race to championships and battle injuries {I had my fair share in high school via the football team while taking photos, I was tackled by the Fox quarterback and separated my shoulder…I don’t even have to play sports to get injured!} Sports is where my true passion lies, even if I don’t know the sport well, I will research it, the players and try to become a sports sponge so I can get detail, action and pretty much any kind of shot that may be needed.

I’ve kinda been like a buzzing bee not only has the Abbotsford Heat been killin’ it on the road but there have been quite a few articles written about them on various websites. What does a fantastic story need? Photos of course. I have been absolutely thrilled to see my photos featured on the ahl.com and nhl.com. Also the Calgary Flames have added photo galleries of the Abbotsford Heat that I’ll be updating every five weeks. It’s kind of like a dream for me, I thought it was awesome when in grade 11 I saw my photos in print and knew everyone in the school saw my photo credit under my photos, today when I saw that one photo on nhl.com with my photo credit I stared for a few minutes at my computer screen then phoned my friend to check her computer to make sure it was real. I think when you love what you do every day it makes a difference in your work and for me in the way I take photos. Yes, I may not sleep much but I truly love what I do.
